I was photographing the sunset from within a construction zone and this Japanese father and son appeared. I hopped off my concrete perch because I loved the way they looked: the matching clothes, hair, stance, all rimed with aurous light. And yet, you can still see differences in the things like the kid kicking up dirt while the man walks along stolidly. Like how the man wears a watch and the kid does not, reflecting a concern with time and responsibility where the son has none. At the heart of it though, there is still a clear connection and bond between the pair as they share a late Sunday walk beneath a golden sunset before the tyrannical demands of reality force the man back to work and the son back to school. Seeing them filled me with nostalgia and I hope both of them remember and think back on their walk with enjoyment in the future.
