The Salton Sea has been a hot spot for urban explorers, and those seeking the peculiar charms of abandonment and wreckage. Bombay Beach is small place on its shore, with a dike dividing what what is left of the town and what is no longer.
On the side of the beach is a gulley carved into the hard packed earth. Farther into the channel spots of water show on the surface, but closer toward the shore, there is no sign of the danger lurking below. A thick layer of salt encrusted mud hides several feet of foul-smelling muck from view. A wrong step can get you stuck.
Just as it seems a Little Tikes car was either ridden or floated out into the wash where it became entrapped in the top crust, never to be used or loved again.
